Dan Shenk was born and raised, until the age of 16, in Tanzania, East Africa, where his parents were Mennonite missionaries. He graduated from Eastern Mennonite University in 1971 and completed his M. Div. at Union Theological Seminary in New York in 1977. He completed the clinical requirements of the Blanton-Peale Residency Program in 1998.

He was a chaplain in corrections in Virginia and New York City and was a co-founder of Bailey House, which pioneered in providing supportive housing and pastoral care to people with AIDS. Dan has had extensive experience in providing both short-term and long-term pastoral psychotherapy for individuals suffering from anxiety, depression, substance abuse, relationship issues, as well as other problems covering the spectrum of the human experience. He brings a spiritual grounding that affords the freedom to help people find and build upon their own spiritual resources. Dan was ordained as an American Baptist minister in 1985 by the historic Judson Memorial Church on Washington Square South in Manhattan.
